For those of you who don’t already know, Grace Hopper was a pioneer computer programmer who started the idea of machine-independent programming languages, which led to the development of COBOL. She was one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer. During her lifetime, Hopper was awarded 40 honorary degrees from universities across the world. A college at Yale University is named in her honor. In 1991, she received the National Medal of Technology. On November 22, 2016, she was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
The Grace Hopper Women In Tech was founded by a computer scientist Anita Borg in 1987. Today, AnitaB.org works with technologists in more than 80 countries, and partners with academic institutions and Fortune 500 companies worldwide. AnitaB.org helps women make significant contributions to technical fields. The program highlights the accomplishments of women technologists, while the events and communities enable women to establish their peer networks.
This is my first Grace Hopper Celebration and I was beyond thrilled to be a part of such inspiring Women in Tech event. Cisco had a fantastic booth to demo the Kinetic Edge and Fog Management product I have been working on. My colleague and I were able to demo the Kinetic platform to many women technologists, students and partners at the conference. It was delightful seeing the fruit of your labor actually become a sellable product and to hear feedbacks directly.
Here are some photo highlights of the event.
